64 Pyrennes Atlantiques
Bordeaux (capital), Perigueux, Bergerac, Bayonne, Biarritz, Pau, Lourdes.
Dordogne, Garonne, Lot, Adour.
Whether you are a family with kids looking for holiday entertainment or a retired couple looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings there is something for you in Aquitaine.
The best place to start is probably with the river Dordogne all which meanders through the area. Actually it rises in the peaks of the Auvergne, way to the east before cutting a swathe through the dramatic area and flowing into the Gironde estuary north of Bordeaux.
The lifestyle, history and culture of the Dordogne valley Attracts visitors from all over the world.
The towns of Sarlat, Beynac, Bergerac, Bordeaux and St Emilion are particularly well known and you will find a variety of languages spoken in the bars and markets as tourists visit throughout the year.
The river comes alive with canoeists, swimmers and pleasure cruisers vying for space in the summer months.
The perfect holiday retreat, the Dordogne is not just about the river, it plays host to over 1,500 chateaux (castles) as well as the caves of Lascaux and famous Paleolithic cave paintings.
It is well known that many British house buyers, in particular, have populated the department. Attracted by the sunny climate, reasonable house prices and the beautiful scenery.
The neighbouring Gironde is the large largest department in the whole of France and boasts Europe's longest beach, the coast all which attracts silver surfers from all over the world.
The Dune du Pyla in Arcachon Bay is the tallest sand dune in Europe. Climb to the top and you tower over the pine forest behind you while enjoying sweeping views over the bay. The Gironde boasts some of the most wonderful wines in existence.
Bordeaux reds are famous throughout the world and many people buy them as an investment.
There are over 8,500 producers in Bordeaux and you will probably have heard of (or tasted) wines like Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild.
The city of Bordeaux is on the World Heritage list and beautiful architecture combined with world class restaurants and first class shopping facilities.
Landes, this department is famous for beaches and inland the huge swathes of pine forests. It has a totally different feel to the Dordogne and contains many "undiscovered" towns and villages.
Similarly, the Lot et Garonne department neighbouring has totally different landscape - indeed it is named after the two rivers that flow through the department. It is sometimes called the "Tuscany of France" and has a totally unspoilt feel about it.
The Atlantic Pyrenees department stretches down to the Spanish border and the Basque influences, plays a big hand in the architecture, cuisine and culture of the area. Towns like Biarritz and Bayonne are famous for the quality of their beaches and surfing. Inland towns and villages in the Pyrenees offer some of the finest walking and biking trails in France.

The Beachouse: This stunning 1920's wooden seaside villa, retaining all its original features is popular with TV companies and photoshoots. In May 2011 Leila Lindholm Swedens celebrity cook filmed her tenth television series at the Beachouse and it featured in her latest cookery book "Hello Cupcake".
Built originally as a holiday house for the bourgoisie of Bordeaux and used only in August means the accommodation is simple and comfortable but not spacious:
It is difficult to imagine that the studio originally housed a horse and carriage with accommodation at the back for a groom.
Despite being right in the centre of town the Beachouse is quiet and private. Just 4 mins walk to the beach, 3 mins to centre of town, 2 mins to huge everyday market and 1 min to pouring a glass of wine and heading for your deckchair!
"I'm bored" words you will never hear from your children. Babies and toddlers love playing with buckets and spades in the sand garden at the front of the house while teenagers love the shops, bars and cafes and above all the freedom to explore Montalivet on their own safely and independently or to practise surfing under the watchful eye of the lifeguards.
Adults will appreciate tasting the best wines in the world. Exploring the Medoc, Bordeaux and 300 wine chateaux within the hour or shopping in the market, cooking together and simply chilling out on the huge south facing veranda, knowing everyone else is happy.
In July and August the house is let as one unit for large groups of family or friends. At other times the flats can be let separately. It has 7 bedrooms.
The West Flat sleeps 2 adults, 2 children. Comprising 2 bedrooms, kitchen, small sitting room and bathroom.
The Middle Flat sleeps 6 people. Comprising 3 double bedrooms, kitchen, sitting room and bathroom with shower.
The Studio sleeps 2 to 6 people. Comprising a double bed sofa downstairs (with single if required) plus attic bedroom with another double bed sofa 120 cm bed and single if required. It has a small kitchen, bathroom with shower plus a new bath under the stairs in bedroom.
